A Tribute to Alan Myers | |||||||
|
It is with much sadness and deep regret that we record the untimely death of Alan Myers, who passed away in October last year. A very private man, but always kind and thoughtful. Originally from Yorkshire, and following time in the Royal Navy, he moved with his wife, to London to take up a teaching position. From there, they bought a home in Milton Keynes to retire to, but within commuting distance for work. Not a stranger to difficult and upsetting personal circumstances, Alan always managed to find time for others and afforded them a warm smile and his customary cheerfulness. Alan was a member of both Gilbert and Sullivan Societies in Milton Keynes, Wolverton and Milton Keynes, for several years. He was an outstanding Bass, with good strength and depth, which lead him to sing the majority of the G&S Bass-Baritone roles, which included Foreman of the Jury, Trial by Jury, Sir Marmaduke The Sorcerer, Boatswain HMS Pinafore, Colonel Calverly Patience, Private Willis Iolanthe, Hildebrand Princess Ida, Mikado The Mikado, Sir Richard The Yeomen of the Guard, Old Adam Ruddigore, Don Alhambra The Gondoliers, Mr Goldbury Utopia Limited. He was also an active committee member, always willing to lend a hand and encourage others. He sang with Padbury Choir for a number of years, and has also performed with The Community Players, where he had many friends and is sadly missed. All of us who knew Alan had a great affection and respect for him. We were privileged to work with him and the richer for his friendship. His artistry and contribution will always be remembered, as will he.
